What I learned building a research compound supplier

I didn t set out to build a peptide company. I set out to find a supplier I could actually trust, and when I couldn t find one that met the standard I needed, I decided to build it.

I didn’t set out to build a peptide company. I set out to find a supplier I could actually trust, and when I couldn’t find one that met the standard I needed, I decided to build it.

The problem with the research compound market isn’t that good suppliers don’t exist. It’s that the signals buyers use to evaluate quality are unreliable. HPLC purity numbers are the main signal, and those numbers are routinely generated by the people selling the product. It’s like asking a restaurant to grade its own health inspection. The incentive structure doesn’t support honesty.

What I wanted was simple. A supplier where the testing is done by someone with no financial stake in the outcome. Where the COA has a verification link that goes somewhere I don’t control. Where the lot number on my vial matches a document I can authenticate independently. Where if I have a technical question about the compound, a real person who knows the product will give me a real answer.

That’s what Anvil is. Every lot is independently tested in the USA before it ships. The testing covers three methods: HPLC purity analysis, mass spectrometry identity confirmation, and LAL endotoxin screening. The endotoxin screening matters especially because HPLC doesn’t detect bacterial contamination. A compound can score 99% on HPLC and still carry endotoxin levels that compromise cell-based research. Running the LAL screen is an extra cost and an extra step. We do it on every lot because the alternative is shipping material where part of the quality picture is unknown.

We ship from Southern California. USPS Priority Mail, Monday through Friday. We pack every order ourselves and verify lot numbers against the COA before the box closes. We answer emails.

The catalog is tight by design; carefully sourced, fully documented. No sprawl, no SKU inflation to look bigger than we are. If something is out of stock because a lot didn’t pass our testing threshold, we say so and wait for one that does.

That’s the whole thing. It’s not complicated. It’s just what the standard should be.
